Welcome to ByteCenter :: ByteIRC :: IRCd Linking Policy
To be elegible for linking to ByteIRC we require the following:
- The machine must be connected via atleast a T1 connection. Cablemodems and DSL are not allowed.
- The machine must run some Unix based operating system (Linux and/or FreeBSD)
- The machine must be stable. The average uptime must be atleast a month.
- An account on the machine is required for ByteIRC Admins. While we perfer a dedicated account we will work with a shared account if need be. We must ALWAYS have access to this account.
- A new and different server location. We're looking for more diverse servers world wide. If we already have a server there we may not want another.
If your machine is chosen to link to ByteIRC we will perform the following steps:
- Gather information about your machine and test the connectivity from a few different machines on our network
- Install all the necessary software on the machine (the IRCD) and configure the C/N lines to connect to our hub.
- Setup DNS services to point to your machine (Format: servername.state.country.byteirc.net)
- Establish the first link and let the server run for a few days watching the stability of the link. During this time we do not allow any IRCops to be added to the new server.
- Allow your local IRCops to be added to the server. All IRCops must be approved by the NetAdmin staff before being added. Adding IRCops without doing this will cause the link to be immediatly disconnected and removed from our network. We will then wait a few days, and let your opers become familiar with our users.
- Bring the server up to full status by adding it to the necessary round robins and begining to load users on it.
